Full of excitement we entered the arrivals at the airport in Bali, finally we would be welcomed by familiar faces at a foreign airport. But things turned out differently, there were no familiar faces waiting for us, only a bunch of taxi drivers wanting to offer their services. Unfortunately, Mieke and Toms taxi got stuck in traffic. Our reunion got postponed a bit, but eventually we could greet each other with a big hug.
And so our short time together started. Besides the ceremony we had a couple of days to spend together. The first days we drove around on a scooter while Mieke and Tom showed us their favorite spots. We also got to know the Indonesian food. As our homestay didn't have a pool, but the B&B Villa Adinda they were staying did, we could have a swim over there. Very friendly people at Villa Adinda by the way, a Belgian couple that runs this B&B since six years. Together with Mieke and Tom we also climbed the volcano, Mount Batur. The clouds spoiled the view at sunrise, but nevertheless we all enjoyed the hike.
And then there was D-day for Mieke and Tom. As the bride should look fabulous on her special day, the ladies went to a saloon to have their hair put up and their nails done. The men had an afternoon together to strengthen the brother bond. At 4 o'clock it was time to make our way to the place where it would all happen. Leen and Dirk from Villa Adinda had taken care of everything. It was a top location by the way: on the edge of a cliff, with a view on a nice temple and the ocean. The ceremony master on duty was Dirk himself and he did a good job in his own funny way. Leen made sure there was a bit of romance by throwing red flower leaves in the air. Mieke and Tom both prepared some beautiful words which functioned as their vows during the ceremony. Of course with teary eyes as a result. All was nicely captured in a “certificate” signed by the newlyweds and the witnesses. Time to take some pictures of the radiant couple. Picturesque places enough in Bali to make some gorgeous shots. One of the most beautiful places was without a doubt the view on Tanah Lot Temple by sunset. We were very happy the sun came out at the end of the day. During our visit at the hair dresser an exotic cloud passed and it seemed that we would need an umbrella. We ended this wonderful day with a nice dinner at the Pan Pacific Resort. What a luxury after a few months. How an unexpected reunion can bring such an amazing shared memory.
All good things come to an end, they say, and so too the time Mieke and Tom had on Bali. The day of the inevitable farewell came and with tears in our eyes we said goodbye. There we were again, on our own. It took some time to get into our own rhythm again and to not steer the scooter to Villa Adinda in the morning.
